Story is a universal language. Stories have been passed down throughout the generations. Hearing a story told live is something everyone loves, especially children. As parents we have a unique opportunity to share not only our stories with our children, but God’s story as well. Beth Smith shares how she learned to tell stories in a way that her children really enjoy.

“Tell me a story”! Such powerful words. Deuteronomy 6 tells us we should talk to our children at home or away - when getting up and lying down. So basically, all the time! That’s a big command…to share ourselves and our God with our children and grandchildren. Today, take a moment to think of two stories (one from your own life and one from the Bible) that you would like to share. Then begin the exciting task of telling stories to the next generation!
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow.
We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.
And when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ‘By a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
